Gen-i, the ICT arm of Telecom New Zealand, has today announced the introduction of a new managed end-to-end unified communications solution based on Microsoft’s Lync platform.
The fully managed service is designed to solve the communications needs of government agencies and businesses, while reducing ongoing operational costs, and optimising the use of communications services. It is the first enterprise outsourced service offering Microsoft Lync in the Australian market.
The Gen-i Managed Service (GMS) - Microsoft Lync service allows the progressive deployment of unified communications services across organisations. It is suitable for multi-site organisations seeking to migrate between 250 to 50,000 employees to a unified communications solution.
Based on a highly flexible outsourcing arrangement, the service includes business analysis, consulting, deployment, service design and ongoing management of a client’s infrastructure and applications. It is designed to be completely network technology and telecommunications provider agnostic, offering a smooth migration path for organisations with complex existing infrastructure.

The solution is managed and supported by Gen i’s 24 x 7 service desk to agreed service levels. Existing telecommunications and voice infrastructure can be incorporated into the solution. Deployment of the solution allows clients to extract further value from their existing investments in Microsoft-based infrastructure.

GMS - Microsoft Lync solution offers Gen-i clients a single user interface that unites voice, instant messaging, audio conferencing, video conferencing and web conferencing. The service can be used to rapidly deploy a pilot unified communications system, before transitioning to an organisation-wide solution.
